What does the counselor do?


Guidance Curriculum
Help students develop their full educational potential, 
including the student’s interests and career objectives.

Responsive Services
Intervene on behalf of any student whose immediate personal concerns or problems 
put the student’s continued educational, career, personal, or social development at risk.

Individual Planning
Guide a student as the student plans, monitors, and manages the student’s 
own educational, career, personal, and social development.

System Support
Support the efforts of teachers, staff, parents, and other members of the community 
in promoting the educational, career, personal, and social development of students. 

As the school counselor at Guadalupe Elementary and William Wood Elementary, I am fortunate to connect with all the students and staff in many different roles.
  • Guidance Lessons: character, growth mindset, friendship, career exploration, drug prevention, bullying prevention, anger management, conflict resolution, making good choices, self confidence, attitude, goal setting
  • Character Awards: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship
  • Small group and individual counseling available for students (not therapy)
  • School-wide event coordinator: Unity Day, Red Ribbon Week, GenTX month, Random Acts of Kindness Week, Career Day
  • Junior Achievement Coordinator
  • Provide staff development on a variety of topics as needed
  • 504 Coordinator
  • Irlen's Screener
  • TPSP coordinator
  • GT campus contact for referrals and testing
  • Special Education referrals for speech
  • Behavior RtI campus designee
  • Student Council Sponsor: community service projects, fundraising projects
  • Provide available community resources to parents upon request: food, shelter, therapy & counseling, etc.
